In 1993 I went to N. Rey High School. The most interesting lesson for me was phisics. I had it with Mr. John SP8ARX. In high school I discovered my new fascination - it was amateur radio. In Scouts Radio Club SP8ZAX my teacher Mr. Mark SP8GWO showed me what really amateur radio was. In this club me and my friends (SQ8CRM, SQ8CRF, SQ8DRG, SQ8BGP) worked under club's callsign on 80 meters band. I found that what I really wanted. There I met many interesting people. Next I made my first home - made reciver on 80 meters band. Some time later me and my friend Mark SQ8BGK passed exam to the Radio Operaror Certificate. I could work on 2 meters and 70 cm bands. My first TRX was "Radmor FM-315K" named "brick" and antenna 3*5/8 lambda 15 meters up the ground on roof of my house. Now I work on HF. My TRX is very old. It is FT-101E with simple dipoles on 21MHz and 14MHz about 7m above the ground.
Amateur radio is truly a hobby of the Space Age. Over one and a half milion people of all ages are 'on the air' from thier own homes, clubs and schools troughou the world.
Most people know very little about amateur radio. They may have a friend
or relative who "talks to people on a radio set" or have seen stories newspapers
about local amateurs providing emergency communications in times of srisis.
Unlike some pastimes, this hobby knows no boundaries. It is open to people
in all walks of life, and kings and teenagers communicate on the air on equal
terms.
His Majesty King Hussein operates his personal amateur radio station from
the Royal Palace in Jordan using his amateur callsign JY1. King Juan Carlos
of Spain and the former prime minister of India Mr Rajiv Gandhi, are also
licensed amateurs of long standing, as is senator Barry Goldwater of the USA.
Actors Sir Brian Rix and Marlon Brando, guitarist Chet Atkins all hold amateur
radio licencews end have been heard joining in the fun on the amateur bands.
Informality prevails and you may never know who it is you are speaking to.
The first real radio amateur was the young Marconi. He was a founding father
of radio broadcasting and first person to estabilish wireless communication
across the Atlantic in 1901.
