Short history of Polish sailing

In June 1919 according to the Wersal Tractise Poland got about 147 km. acces to the Balic Sea. In the same year the Assocciation of Sailing Friends was estabilished. In 1922 it became the first yacht club. Founder of this association was Otto Weiland. It was the begining of the sport yachting in Poland.

In 1924 was founded Polish Yacht Club. The first comandor was Mariusz Zaruski. In the next year the club bought the first sailing-boats like: Witez (75m2), Gryf (75m2) and two masts yecht named "Carmen"(130m2), which was sailing under Polish flag. In tha same time was founded Liga Morska.

In may 1924 come into being Polish Yacht Association which was principal mastery of yachting in Poland. The association become fellowship of the International Yacht Race Union. In this year the first Polish sailor Edward Bryzemajster got percitipation in Olipc Games in Paris. He finished this boat-race on twelve position. The first Polish forein voyge to Denmark and Sweden seaport was arranged by Mariusz Zaruski on the "Witez" sailing boat in 1925.

In 1926 Zaruski created National Marine Committee and from its founds the fregate "Dar Pomorza" was purchased. It has been tution sailing-boat of Polish Marin since 1930.

Great place in history of Polish Yachting have scauts. In 1932 Wladyslaw Wagner and Rudolf Korniowski on the sea-pinnace named "Zjawa" left Gdynia for the voyage around the world. After long, over seven years of sailing "Zjawa" reached London where the voyage was outbreak by second World War.

In march 1967 the fitst Polish marin Leonid Teliga sailed to the lonely voyage around the world on his home made sailing ship named "Opty" (43m2)).He set out from Casablanca through Barbados, Panama Canal, Thaiti, Indian Ocean, and after 27 months of the lonely sailing came back to Casablanca.

In April 1978 Krystyna Chojnowska - Liskiewicz as the first woman in the world finished her lonely over 25 months long voyage around the world. She spent all this time on the sailing yacht named "Mazurek" with 35 square meters of sail.

In 1980 skiper Henryk Jaskula on the sailing-boat "Dar Przemysla" with 80 square meters of sail finished the grand voyage around the world. It is incredible but he sail all this way without coming into harbours.

Sailing is very popular and beutiful sport and rest. But its have one defect - it is so expensive.
